A NOTE ON THE PRODUCTION OF PIZZICATO PLUCKERY FROM THE COMPOSER, VASCO:

“The idea for writing and recording the pieces for this playful album came around because so often, less is more. ‘Pizzicato’ or ‘plucked’ rather than bowed strings, can tell a story in so many ways. The effect can be fun, mischievous, quirky and even dramatic. There can be lots of space between phrases. Writing for picture is often about utilising space, or keeping things small, so as not to compete with the imagery. It was going to be fun to tie our hands, look for melodies, phrases and rhythms that would naturally suit this approach. It is interesting how the ideas come more easily when you set a limit; In this case, keeping as close to ‘pizzicato’ as possible. Marc and I had already had a lot of fun writing, ‘Taking the Pizz’ (the first album in this series).

Then as now, it was really important to use a live orchestra: energy and performance bring a piece of music to life and make it unique. It being Covid times, we had to do the session remotely and I ended up taking some photos of the screen in order to keep a memory of the session. I used these as the basis for the cover that I drew for the album. I also made a short animation using my drawings that tries to capture something about how much fun we had making the album.”
