This month, we have a very special release on our West One Music label. We’re flying to Central Europe to showcase the rich sounds of Northern German folk music with Sounds Of Germany: Nordisch By Nature. Courtesy of German composers Tobias Zieziula and Jan Weigel, this charming album depicts Nordisch life using traditional acoustic instrumentation.
The composers used traditional accordion, harmonica, and acoustic guitars to bring a rich and authentic tone to the music and even included sea shanty choirs. Thematically, the tracks cover a range of moods, from peaceful and nostalgic to mischievous and tense.
Composers Tobias and Jan shared a few words on making the album; scroll down to read more. Below, you can also check out a few pictures from the recording session, which took place in North Germany earlier this year.

Tobias Zieziula
“Working on ‘Sounds of Germany: Nordisch by Nature’ was very special: composing about my region and heritage while being a part of it made a whole new level of inspiration and influence possible that found its way into the music.”

Jan Weigel
“When WOM invited me to make music for an album that captures the essence of Northern Germany, I felt that this is exactly what I love to do anyway. Making calm, understated, minimalistic music transports a positive vibe without expecting too much of the listener.”
“I was born and raised close to Hamburg, and I have a deep connection to the area, especially the Lueneburg Heath – soft rainy weather and the calm, friendly character of the people. My tunes can be seen as a homage to my childhood.”
“The instruments of my choice are my old German Harmonium, acoustic guitars, a piano, and an accordion.”
